Chapter 26: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

 

        1And it became when the Jesus finished all these, the words, he said to his adherents, 2“You know that after two days the Passover‹a› becomes, and the son of the humanity is being handed over into the one to be crucified.

      3At that time the chief priests, ╓and the scribes╖ and the elders of the people were gathered into the courtyard‹b› of the chief priest, the one being called‹c› Kaiaphas. 4And they deliberated so that with deceit they might seize the Jesus, and they might kill {him}. 5Moreover they were saying not within the feast so that an uproar might not become within the people.

      6Moreover {upon} the Jesus becoming within Bethany within a house of a Simon the one leprous; 7a woman having an globular vase of very costly unguent‹d› came forward to him and {upon} him reclining at table she poured {it} onto the head. 8Moreover the adherents of him, having observed, were vexed saying, “Into why this, the waste‹e›? 9For this, the unguent, was able to have been sold {for} much and to have been given freely to {the ones} begging.”

      10Morever the Jesus, having known experientially, said to them, “Why are you causing toils and troubles to the woman for she worked an excellent work into me. 11For you always have the ones begging with yourselves‹f›; moreover you do not always have me, 12for this one, having cast this, the unguent, upon the body of me, did towards the one to have prepared me for burial; 13truly I say to you wherever this, the good news, might be heralded within the whole world-order, it will also be spoken into remembrance of her what this one did.

      14At that time one of the twelve, the one being called‹c› Judas Iscariot, having been proceeded towards the chief priests, 15said, “What do you desire to have freely given me, and I will hand him over to you

      Moreover the ones fixed by agreement‹g› with him thirty silver coins. 16And from at that time he was seeking a convenient situation so that he might hand him over.

      17Moreover {within} the one first of the one unleavened the adherents came forward to Jesus saying to him, “Where do you desire to you {so that} we might prepare to have eaten the Passover {meal}?”

      18Moreover the one said, “Depart you into the city towards the one so-and-so and say you to him, ‘The teacher says the opportune time‹h› of me is near, towards you I am making the Passover {meal} with the adherents of me.’ ”

      19And the adherents did as the Jesus ordained them, and they prepared the Passover {meal}.

      20Moreover {upon} having become evening he was reclining at table with the ones twelve; 21and {in the midst of} them eating he said, “Truly I say to you that one out of you will hand me over.”

      22And they, being exceedingly distressed began: {the one} each ╓of them╖ to say to him, “Whether perchance is it I sir?”

      23Moreover the one, having replied, said, “This, the one, having dipped in the hand of him with me into the bowl, will hand me over!” 24Indeed the son of the humanity departs according as it is written concerning him. Ah! Woe! Moreover to that, the person, through whom the son of the humanity is handed over, it was excellent to him if that, the person, was not birthed.”

      25Moreover a Judas, the one handing him over, having replied, said, “Whether perchance is it I, honorable sir?”

      He says to him, “You said {it}!”

        26Moreover {in the midst of} them eating, the Jesus, taking the bread, having ╓given thanks╖ ┌praised┐, broke {it}; and ╓he was freely giving╖ ┌having given freely┐ to the adherents, ╓and╖ he said, “Receive you, and eat you, this is the body of me.”

      27And he, having taken the cup and having given thanks, freely gave {it} to them saying, “Drink you {the ones} all out of it 28for this is the blood of me, ╓the one╖ of the ╓new╖ covenant, the one being spilled into the dismissal of failures concerning {the ones} many. 29Moreover I say to youthat╖ by no means might I drink from just now out of this the ╓offspring╖ ┌produce┐ of the vine until that, the day, whenever I drink it, {the one} new {produce of the vine}, with you within the dominion of the father of me.”

      30And they, having commemorated {the Passover}, went forth into the mountain of the olive trees; 31at that time the Jesus says to them, “All you will be stumbling within me within this, night, night for it has had been written, ‘I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock ╓will be dispersed╖ ┌will be dispersed┐.’ ” 32Moreover after the one to have awaken me I will lead before you into the Galilee.

      33Moreover the Peter, having replied, said to him, “If {the ones} all will be stumbling within you, I not even ever will be stumbling.”

      34The Jesus was asserting to him, “Truly I say to you that within this, the night, before to have crowed‹i› a rooster, you will utterly deny me thrice.”

      35The Peter says to him, “And it would be needful for me to have deceased with you, by no means will I utterly deny you

      Moreover in the same way also all the adherents said.

      36At that time the Jesus comes with them into the spot called‹c› a Gethsemane, and he says to the adherents of him, “Sit you down while of which I, having gone forth, might pray there.”

      37And having taken along the Peter and the two sons of a Zebedee he began to be distressed and to be in anguish. 38At that time ╓the Jesus╖ ┌he┐ says to them, “The soul of me is deeply grieved until death; stay you here, and be you fully awake with me.”

      39And having gone ╓forward╖ ┌before┐ a little he fell onto the face of him praying and saying, “Father of me, if it is {the one} possible, let this potion‹j› pass from me, nevertheless not as I desire but as you {desire}.”

      40And he comes towards the adherents, and he finds them lying asleep, and he says to the Peter thus, “Do you not have strength to have been fully awake one hour‹k› with me? 41Be you fully awake, and pray you so that you might not enter into a trial, indeed the spirit {is} eager, moreover the flesh {is} weak.”

      42Again he, having gone forth out of {the one} second, prayed saying, “Father of me, if this, ╓the potion‹j›╖ is not being able to have passed ╓from me╖, except I would drink it, let be the will of you become.

      43And he, having come, ╓finds again╖ ┌found┐ them lying asleep for the eyes of them, having had been heavy, were. 44He, having dismissed them having gone forth again out of {the one} third, having said the same word ┌again┐ prayed.

      45At that time he comes towards the adherents ╓of him╖, and he says to them, “Lie you asleep the one remaining, and take you rest‹l›, lo the fitting time‹m› has drawn near, and the son of the humanity is being handed over into hands of {the ones} of bad character.

      46Be you awakened! We lead! Lo! The one handing me over has drawn near.”

      47And yet {upon} his speaking lo a Judas, one of the twelve, came and with him a large crowd with daggers and clubs from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48Moreover the , delivering him, freely gave them a sign saying, “Whom he would friendly love, he is {the one}, seize you him.”

      49And immediately he, having come forward to Jesus, he said, “Hail you! My honorable sir!” And he kissed him. 50Moreover the Jesus said to him, “Comrade!” Upon who is present, at that time having come forward they affixed the hands onto the Jesus, and they seized him. 51And lo one of the ones with a Jesus having stretched out the hand he detached the dagger of him, and he, having smote the slave of the chief priest, severed his ear‹n›. 52At that time the Jesus says to him, “Turn you away the dagger of you into the place of it. For all the ones taking the dagger will ╓will decease╖ ┌be utterly destroyed┐ within a dagger, 53or do you think that I am not able ╓just now╖ to have entreated the father of me, and he will supply me ┌just now┐ more ╓than‹o›╖ twelve legions of heavenly messengers. 54How then might the writings be fulfilled? Because it is needful to have become thus.”

      55Within that fitting time‹m› the Jesus said to the crowds, “As onto a plunderer ╓you╖ ┌you┐ came forth with daggers and clubs to have arrested me, day by day I sat within the temple teaching towards you, and you did not seize me; 56morever this all‹p› has become so that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.”

      At that time all the adherents, having dismissed him, having dismissed him fled. 57Moreover the ones, having seized the Jesus, led {him} forth towards Caiaphas, the chief priest, where the scribes and elders were gathered.

      58Moreover the Peter was following him from at a distance until the courtyard‹b› of the chief priest and he, having entered within, was seated with the assistants to have observed the completion.

      59Moreover the chief priests ╓and the elders╖ and the whole council were seeking false testimony against the Jesus to the end that they might be put him to death; 60and they did not find, and {upon} many false witnesses having come forward they did not find; moreover afterwards ╓two false witnesses╖ ┌{the ones} two┐, having come forward, ┬61moreover afterwards ╓two false witnesses╖ ┌{the ones} two┐, having come forward, said, “This one was asserting I am able to have demolished the sanctuary of the god and through three days to have built ╓it╖.”┬ ╔61said, “This one was asserting I am able to have demolished the sanctuary of the god and through three days to have built ╓it╖.”╗

      62And having stood up the chief priest said to him, “Are you replying nothing {to} what these are testifying against you

      63Moreover the Jesus was keeping silent, and the chief priest ╓, having replied,╖ said to him, “I conjure you against the god, the one living, that you might say to us if you are the one anointed, the son of the god!”

      64The Jesus says to him, “ You said {it}; nevertheless I say to you, ‘From just now you will observe the son of the humanity being seated from {the ones} on the right hand of a power and coming upon the clouds of a universe.’ ”

      65At that time the chief priest tore asunder the outer garments of him saying, “╓Because he╖ ┌He┐ slandered, why are we yet having a need of witnesses? Observe you! Now you heard the defamation ╓of him╖. 66What think to you

      Moreover the ones, having replied, said, “He is guilty of death.”

      67At that time they spat upon into the face of him, and they buffeted him, moreover the ones slapped {him} in the face 68saying, “{The one} anointed! Prophesy you to us! Who is the one having struck you?

      69Moreover the Peter was seated outside within the courtyard‹b›, and one young female slave came forward to him saying, “And you were with a Jesus, the one Galilean.”

      70Moreover the one denied in front of all them saying, “I do not know what you are saying!”

      71Moreover having him‹q› [Jesus] come forth into the gate-house he observed him‹q› [Jesus], and an other‹r› {young female slave} says ╓to them╖ ┌the ones┐ there, “╓And╖ this one was with a Jesus, the one Nazorean.” 72Again he denied with an oath that he does not know the person.

      73Moreover after a little {time} the ones having had been standing having come forward, said to the Peter, “And in reality you are from them, and for also the speech of you makes you conspicuous.”

      74At that time he began to curse and to swear, “That I do not know the person!”

      And immediately a rooster crowed‹i›; 75and the Peter remembered of the message of Jesus having had been said to him that before to have crowed‹i› a rooster you might utterly deny me thrice, and he, having gone forth outside, wept bitterly aloud.

‹a›The Greek is πάσχα, pascha, from the Hebrew meaning pass over; thus the Passover which was a celebration lasting for seven days or eating unleavened bread, Deut 16:1-8 thus there are various aspects to this celebration, however the Greek texts just use one word and the additional meanings must be supplied from the context. These meanings are given with an addendum in { } throughout this chapter unless referring to the celebration as a whole whereon Passover will be used.

‹b›The Greek is αὐλή, aulē, meaning an open courtyard but where the placement is uncertain: is it in front of the dwelling or is the dwelling built around it such as then it is an inner courtyard or is latter usage implied as to he the abode of chief priest which could be a palace since the chief-priests were also political leaders? What is implied is a large area for the meeting of a large group of people, thus the use of courtyard.

‹c›The Greek is λέγω, legō, meaning to say but the context here is to name which is commonly stated to call.

‹d›See Mark 14:3 or John 12:3 for the definition of the unguent.

‹e›The Greek is ἀπώλεια, apōleia meaning destruction but the context here is waste which is a form of destruction or to be made useless for a nobler purpose, such as giving money to beggars.

‹f›The Greek is 3rd person plural of the reflexive pronoun αυτο, heautou, however the context here is 2nd person plural.

‹g›The Greek is ἵστημι, histēmi meaning generally to stand, establish thus the context calls for the Greek meaning to fix by agreement.

‹h›The Greek is καιρός, kairos, meaning due measure or when time inferred critical time, season, opportune time; thus contextually opportune time.

‹i›The Greek is φωνέω, phōneō meaning generally to sound, voice, speak, cry aloud, summon thus the context is the rooster sounding or to crow.

‹j›The Greek is ποτηρίον, potērion meaning drinking cup however the context to experience one’s lot in life whether joyous or adverse. This is common idiom in several languages and is similar to our word potion meaning the same thing.

‹k›The Greek is ὥρα, hōra meaning any period of time, season, year, fitting time; thus contextually the hour, since a specific length of time is implied and hour would be reasonable. However it could be also interpreted to be this one night.

‹l›The Greek is ἀναπαύω, anapauō, meaning make to cease, put an end to, take rest, lie fallow; here the context is to take rest.

‹m›The Greek is ὥρα, hōra meaning any period of time, season, year, fitting time; thus contextually the fitting time.

‹n›The Greek is ὠτίον, ōtion, the diminutive of οὖς, ous meaning ear. The use of the diminutive suggests maybe only part of the ear is severed, or may be indicative of only the outer portion without the inner portion being affected.

‹o›The than is redundant in the TR and MT texts with the comparative adjective more which contextually is implied with the comparative, thus only one is used.

‹p›The Greek is ὅλος, holos having the focus of unity as whole, complete, all, rather than quantity or totality which is the Greek word πας, pas.

‹q›The Greek is masculine accusative thus the reference must be to a person and contextually this implies Jesus.

‹r›The Greek is feminine nominative thus the parenthetical of a young female slave is implied as culturally it is unlikely for a free woman if present to have addressed Peter.
