Matthew Chapter 20: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

1For the dominion of the universes is similar-to a person, master-of-the-home, as-soon-as at-morn whosoever went-forth to have hired workmen into the vineyard of him; 2╒moreover╕ ╥and╥ he, with the workmen having concurred the day out-of a denarius, sent authoritatively them into the vineyard of him.

      3And he, having come-forth around ┬the┬ ╔a╗ third hour‹a›, observed {the-ones} other idle‹b› having stood within the market-place; 4┬and-to-those┬ ╔and to those╗ he said, “Depart you also into the vineyard, and if-whatever may be {the-one} righteous, I will give-freely you;” ╥moreover the-ones went-forth.╥

╒5moreover the-ones went-forth. Again he, having come-forth around a sixth, also a ninth hour‹a›, did likewise;╕ ╥5Again he, having come-forth around a sixth, also a ninth hour‹a›, did likewise;╥ 6moreover he, having come-forth around the eleventh ╓hour‹a›╖, found {the-ones} other ╓idle‹b›╖ having stood, and he says to them, “Why have you, {the-ones} idle‹b›, stood here the whole day?”

7They say to him, “Because no-one hired us.”

He says to them, “Depart you also into the vineyard ╓, and if-whatever may be {the-one} righteous, you will receive╖.”

8Moreover {upon} evening having become the sir of the vineyard says to the administrator of him, “Call you the workmen, and give-forth you to them the recompense beginning from the-ones last until the-ones first.”

9And the-ones, having come around the eleventh hour‹a›, receive up a denarius, 10╓moreover╖ ┌and┐ the ones first, having come, deemed that they will receive ╓{the-ones} more╖ ┌{the-one} more┐, and they also received up ╓a denarius╖ ┌the-one, a denarius┐; 11they, having taken, they were grumbling against the master-of-the-home 12saying, “╓That these╖ ┌These┐, the-ones last do one hour, you made also them equal to us; the-ones to have borne the burden of the day and the summer-heat.”

13Moreover the-one, having replied, said to one of them, “Comrade, I do-wrong you not! Did you NOT concur a denarius with me?” 14“Lift-up you the-one possessed-by-you, and depart you! Moreover I desire to have given-freely to this, the-one last, as to you, 15or is-it-lawful not to me to have done which I desire with the-ones possessed-by-me; ╓if╖ ┌or┐ is the eye of you {the-one} base because I am {the-one} good? 16Thus the-ones last will be {the-ones} first; and the-ones first {will be the-ones} last, ╓for {the ones} many are {the ones} invited‹c›, moreover {the ones} selected {are the ones} few╖.”

17And the Jesus, ascending into a Jerusalem, took-along the twelve adherents within the way, and he said privately to them, 18“Lo we ascend into a Jerusalem, and the son of the humanity will be handed-over to the chief-priests and scribes, and they will deem-guilty him to death, 19and they will hand-over him to the nations into the-one to have mocked and to have whipped and to have crucified and {within} the third day he will ╓stand-up╖ ┌be awakened┐.”

20At-that-time the mother of the sons of a Zebedee, making-obeisance and requesting-for-herself something ╓beside╖ ┌from┐ him, came-forward to him with the sons of her,

21Morever the-one said to her, “Which do you desire?”

She says to him, “Say you that these, the two sons of me, might sit-down one out-of {the-ones} on-the-right-hand of you and one out-of {the-ones} on-the-left-hand of you within the dominion of you

22Moreover the Jesus, having replied, said, “You do not know which you are requesting-for-yourselves. Are- you –being-able to have drunk the potion‹d› which I intend to drink ╓or {are- you -able} to have purified {by} the purification which I am being purified╖?”

They say to him, “We- are -being-able!”

23╓And he╖ ┌He┐ says to them, “Indeed you will drink the potion‹d› of me ╓, and you will be purified in the purification which I am purified╖. Moreover the-one to have sat-down out-of {the-ones} on-the-right-hand of me and out-of {the-ones} on-the-left-hand of me is not possessed-by-me to have given-freely ┌this┐, but to whom it has been prepared from-under the father of me.

24And the-ones ten, having heard, were-vexed concerning the two brothers.

25Moreover the Jesus, having addressed them, said, “You know that the rulers of the nations exercise-complete-dominion of them, and the-ones great exercise-authority-over them. 26╓Moreover it╖ ┌It┐ will not be thus within you, but if-whoever may desire to become {the-one} great, he will be a servant of you; 27and if-whoever may desire to be {the-one} first within you, ╓let he be╖ ┌he will be┐ a slave of you. 28Even-as the son of the humanity did not come to have been served but to have served and to have given-freely the physical life of him, a price of release instead of {the-one} many.

29And {upon} them having proceeded-forth from a Jericho a large crowd followed him, 30and lo two {the-ones} blind being-seated beside the way, having heard that Jesus is traveling, screamed saying, “Have-mercy-on you us! Sir, A son of a David!”

31Moreover the crowd censured them so-that they might keep-silent, moreover the-ones screamed {the-one} greater saying, “Have-mercy-on you us! Sir, A son of a David!”

32And the Jesus, having stood, summoned them, and he said, “Which do you desire, I will do to you

33They say to him, “Sir, so-that the eyes of us might be opened.”

34Moreover the Jesus, having been compassionated, contacted the eyes of them, and immediately ╓the eyes of them╖ ┌they┐ gazed, and they followed him.

_____

‹a›The Greek is ὥρα, hōra meaning any period of time, season, year, fitting time; thus contextually the hour, since a specific times within the day is mentioned throughout this passage.

‹b›The Greek is ἀργός, argos, an adjective meaning not working the ground, idle, yielding no return, left undone, contextually idle, not employed.

‹c›The Greek is κλητός, klētos, an adjective meaning invited, invoked, welcomed, called out.

‹d›The Greek is ποτηρίον, potērion, meaning drinking-cup, receptacle, absorbent. It also is a figure of speech in the Middle East cultures for one’s lot in life or potion which they are to experience whether joyously or adversely. Thus contextually the use of potion is better in this passage than drinking-cup.
