Matthew Chapter 14: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

 

        1Within that, the opportune-time‹a›, a Herod, the Tetrarch, heard the hearsay of a Jesus, 2and he said to the boys‹b› of him, “This-one is a John, the purifier, he was awakened from the-ones dead, and for-this-reason the powers are operating within him.”

      3For the Herod, having seized the John, bound him, and he ╓placed╖ ┌put-away┐ {him} within the prison because of a Herodias, the woman of Philip, the brother of him; 4for the John was saying to him, “It-is-lawful not to you to have her.

      5And he, desiring to have killed him, was terrified of the crowd because they were having him as a prophet. 6Moreover ╓{upon} birthdays becoming╖ ┌with birthdays becoming┐ of the Herod, the daughter of the Herodias danced within the-one middle; and she pleased the Herod; 7for-which-reason he conceded with oath to have given-freely to her if-whatever she might request-for-herself.

      8Moreover the-one, having been pushed forward from-under the mother of her, she asserts, “Give-freely you me here the head of a John, the purifier, upon a platter.”

      9And the king was distressed, ╓moreover╖ because-of the oaths and the-ones, having relined-together-at-table, he commanded to have been given-freely; 10he, having sent, beheaded the John within the prison, 11and the head of him upon a platter is brought, and it was given-freely to the little-girl‹c›, and she brought to the mother of her.

      12And the adherents of him, having come-forward, lifted-up the ╓body╖ ┌corpse┐, and they honored-with-funeral-rites it, and they, having-come, reported to the Jesus.

      13╓And╖ ┌Moreover┐ the Jesus, having heard, retreated privately thence within the fishing-boat into an uninhabited place, and the crowds, having heard, followed him by-land from the cities; 14and the Jesus, coming-forth, observed a large crowd, and he was compassionated upon them, and he medically-treated the-ones sickly of them.

      15Moreover {upon} evening becoming the adherents ╓of him╖ came-forward to him saying, “{The-one} uninhabited is the place, and the hour‹d› already passed, release you the crowds so-that having gone-forth into the villages they might buy themselves food

      16Moreover Jesus said to them, “They have not a need to have gone-forth, give-freely you to them to have eaten.”

      17Moreover they say to him, “We have not here except five loaves-of-bread and two fish

      18Moreover the-one said to them, “Bring you them here to me.” 19And he, having commanded the crowds to have been reclined upon the grasses, taking the five loaves-of -bread and two fish, having looked up into the heavens, praised; he, having broken {them}, gave-freely the loaves-of-bread to the adherents, moreover the adherents {gave-freely} to the crowds. 20And {the-ones} all, and they were satisfied, and they lifted-up twelve satiated baskets, the-one abounding of fragments; 21moreover the-ones eating were about five-thousand men, otherwise-than women and children‹e›.

      22And immediately ╓the Jesus╖ ┌he┐ compelled the adherents ┬of him┬ to have embarked into the fishing-boat and to lead-before him into the-one on-the-other-side, while which he might release the crowds. 23And he, having released the crowds, ascended into the mountain to have prayed privately, moreover {upon} evening having become only he was there.

      24Moreover the fishing-boat already ╓was {towards the-one} middle of the sea╖ ┌it was having-forth many stadia from the land┐. It, being tortured from-under the waves, was for the opposing wind.

      25Moreover {within} the fourth watch‹f› of the night the Jesus ╓came-forth╖ ┌came┐ towards them walking ╓upon╖ ┌onto┐ the sea.

      26╓And╖ ┌Moreover┐ the adherents, having observed him walking ╓onto╖ ┌upon┐ the sea, were disturbed saying, “That it is a phantom!” And from the terror they screamed!

      27Moreover the Jesus immediately spoke to them saying, “Be-of-good-courage you! I am! Be terrified you not

        28Moreover the Peter, having replied to him, said, “Sir! If you are {he}, command you me to have come towards you upon the waters

      29Moreover the one said, “Come you

      And the Peter, having descended from the fishing-boat, walked upon the waters ╓to have come╖ ┌, and he came┐ towards the Jesus. 30Moreover he, seeing the strong wind, was terrified, and he, having begun to be submerged, screamed, saying, “Sir! Rescue you me!”

      31Moreover immediately the Jesus, having stretched-out the hand, attained him; and he says to him, “Diminished-complete-confidence-and-total-trust! Into why did you doubt?”

      32And {upon} them ╓embarking╖ ┌ascending┐ into the fishing-boat the wind abated, 33moreover the-ones within the boat, ╓having come╖, made-obeisance to him saying, “In-reality you are a son of a god.”

      34And they, having crossed-over, came ╓into╖ ┌onto┐ the land ┌into┐ a Gennesaret; 35and the men of that, the place, having recognized him, sent-authoritatively {word} into that, the-one whole countryside; and they brought forward to him the-ones all having illness‹g›; 36and they were entreating him so-that they might only contact the edge of the outer-garment of him; and {the-ones} as-many-as contacted, they recovered.

‹a›The Greek is καιρός, kairos, meaning due measure or when time inferred critical time, season, opportune time; thus contextually opportune-time Herod gets the hearsay concerning the works of Jesus.

‹b›The Greek is παίς, pais meaning boy or child or servant; however here it could also be translated servant, especially youthful-servants.

‹c›The Greek is κοράσιον, korasion meaning little girl, maiden since this is the diminutive for the word girl, young wife, this daughter is probably preteen or near puberty for as I understand the cultures at that time a girl would be married or enter into marriage at puberty if previously espoused by the parents.

‹d›The Greek is ὥρα, hōra meaning any period of time, season, year, fitting time; thus contextually the fitting time for the evening meal has passed or the hour.

‹e›The Greek is παιδίον, paidion meaning toddler, child of either sex, however in this context it would be children of all ages below age of adulthood at that time.

‹f›The Greek is φυλακή, phylakē meaning watch, guard, prison; thus contextually the watch as the night was divided into three watches by the Greeks and Israelites before Roman rule and four under this realm and was the time of changing the guard shifts.

‹g›The Greek is κακῶς, kakōs, an adverb meaning ill, in this context the article for the idiom κακς, ho kakōs is implied, thus rendered illness for the context.
