Matthew Chapter 8: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

1Moreover ╓with him having descended╖ ┌{upon} him having descended┐ from the mountain large crowds followed him. 2And lo {the-one} leprous, ╓having come╖ ┌having come-forward┐, made-obeisance to him saying, “Sir! If- you -would desire, you are-being-able to have cleansed me.”

3And ╓the Jesus╖ ┌he┐, having stretched the hand, contacted him saying, “I desire. Be cleansed you.” And immediately the serious-skin-disease of him was cleansed; 4and the Jesus says to him, “Observe you no-one, say you {nothing}, but depart you, display you yourself to the priest, bring-forward you the offering which a Moses prescribed into testimony to them.”

5Moreover ┬with the Jesus having entered┬ ┌{upon} his having entered┐ ╥with him having entered╥ into a ╓Capernaum╖ ┌Capharnaum┐, a centurion, entreating him, came-forward to him, 6and saying, “Sir! The paralyzed boy‹a› of me, being tortured terribly, has been cast within the house.” 7And ╓the Jesus╖ ┌he┐ says to him, “Having come, I will medically-treat him.” 8And the centurion, having replied, was asserting, “Sir! I am not competent so-that you might enter under the roofing of me, but only say you ┬a word┬ ╔with a word╗, and the boy‹a› of me will be healed. 9For I am also a person under an authority, having soldiers under myself; and I say to this-one, ‘Be proceeded you, and he proceeds; and to {the-one} other come you, and he comes; and to the slave of me do you this, and he does {it}.”

10Moreover the Jesus, having heard, marveled, and he said to the-ones following, “Truly I say to you, ‘╓Not-even╖ ┌Beside no-one┐ within the Israel did I find so-great a complete-confidence-and-total-trust.’ 11Moreover I say to you, ‘That {the-ones} many from east and west will have-arrived, and they will be reclined-at-table with an Abraham and an Isaac and a Jacob within the dominion of the universes.’ 12Moreover the sons of the dominion will be cast into the darkness, the-one outer; and the wailing and the gnashing of teeth will be there.”

13And the Jesus said to the centurion, “Depart you ╓and╖ inasmuch-as you had-complete-confidence-and-was-totally-trusting, let be it became to you, and the boy of him was healed within that, the second‹b›”.

14And the Jesus, having come into the house of a Peter, observed the mother-in-law of him having had been cast {upon the couch} and being-feverish. 15And he contacted the hand of her, and the fever dismissed her, and she was arisen, and she was serving him.

16Moreover {upon} evening having become they brought forward to him {the-ones} many being-maniacal, and he cast-forth the spirits with a word, and he medically-treated the-ones all having illness‹c›, 17to-the-end-that it might be fulfilled the-one having been said through an Isaiah, the prophet, saying, “He took the feeblenesses of us, and he bore the insanities.”

18Moreover the Jesus, having observed ╓large crowds╖ ┌a crowd┐ around him he commanded to have gone-forth into the-one on-the-other-side. 19And one scribe, having come-forward, said to him, “Teacher! I will follow you wherever you go-forth

20And the Jesus says to him, “The foxes have dens, and the-ones winged of the universe {have} perches; moreover the son of the humanity has not where he may lay-down the head.”

21Moreover {the-one} other-different of the adherents of him said to him, “Sir! Entrust you me to have gone-forth and to have honored-with-funeral-rites the father of me.”

22Moreover the Jesus said to him, “Follow you me, and dismiss you the-ones dead to have honored-with-funeral-rites of themselves the-ones dead.”

23And with him having embarked into the fishing-boat the adherents of him followed him, 24and lo a great agitation became within the sea, therefore the fishing boat to being covered from-under the waves; moreover, he was lying-asleep. 25And ╓the adherents of him╖ ┌they┐, having come-forward, awakened him saying, “Sir! Rescue you ╓us╖! We are being destroyed-utterly!”

26And he says to them, “Why are you cowardly, {the-ones} diminished-of-complete-confidence-and-total-trust?” At-that-time he, having been awakened, censured the winds and the sea, and a great calm became.

27Moreover the humanity marveled saying, “Of-what-sort is this-one that also the winds and the sea harken to him?”

28And ╓with him coming╖ ┌{upon} him coming┐ into the-one on-the-other-side, into the country of the-ones ╓Gergesene‹d›╖ ┌Gadarene‹d›┐, {the-ones} two very-greatly cruel, being-maniacal, coming-forth out-of the tombs, encountered him, therefore some not to have strength {were-being-able not} to have passed through that, the way. 29And lo they screamed saying, “Why to us and to you, ╓Jesus╖, son of the god, did you come here before the appropriate-time‹c› to have tortured us.”

30Moreover a herd, being fed of many young-pigs, was afar from them. 31Moreover the semi-divine-beings were entreating him saying, “If you cast-forth us, entrust you us to have gone-forth into the herd of young-pigs.”

32And he said, “Depart you!” Moreover, the-ones, having gone-forth, went-forth into ╓the herd of the young-pigs╖ ┌the young-pigs┐; and lo all the herd ╓of young-pigs╖ darted down the cliff into the sea, and they deceased within the waters.

33Moreover the-ones, tending-to-the-feeding‹e› fled and having gone-forth into the city, reported {the-ones} all, also the-ones of the-ones being-maniacal. 34And lo all the city went-forth into ╓confrontation╖ ┌engagement┐ with Jesus; and they, having observed him, did entreat to-the-end-that he might transition from the territory of them.

‹a›The Greek word is παίς, pais meaning boy probably before the age of puberty or for a youthful servant, whether free or slave, although it is a masculine noun it is not a gender specific word, thus the child or the servant could be of either gender. From the context and the fact that the soldier was a centurion in a foreign land, it is more probable that the person in this context was a youthful servant. Although I translate as boy, it also could be a term of endearment as a father will often speak of his son as his boy and so may have the centurion been holding this servant in high esteem and spoke of him as his boy.

‹b›The Greek is ὥρα, hōra meaning any period of time, season, year, fitting time; thus contextually the healing was at that moment or the second.

‹c›The Greek is κακῶς, kakōs, an adverb meaning ill, in this context the article for the idiom κακς, ho kakōs is implied, thus rendered illness for the context.

‹d›The region of the Gargesa [possibly a variant of Gerasa] was an area within the Decapolis (ten cities) on the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee and the Jordan River. The ten cites were inland from the northern most Damascus (modern day Damascus, Syria), Canatha, Hippos (on the sea of Galilee), Dion, Raphana, Gadara, Scytopois, Pella, Gerasa, Pella, Philadelphia (modern day Amman, Jordan). The six southern most cities would have been in the land of Manasseh and Gad. These were self-governing cities with a Greek culture and of Roman military importance of the eastern frontier. Thus the young pigs herd, forbidden for the Israelites has its presence amongst these primarily Gentile peoples. The afflicted person may have been an Israelite since Jesus was sent to the Israelites. The Nestle-Aland text has Gadara which is further north of Gerasa. The topography would possibly include land on the southern tip of the Sea of Galilee in the region of Gadara. It is uncertain as to what the relationship between these city states may have been. In Mark these country names are reverse in the texts: the TR-MT having Gadara and the NA having Gerasa.

‹e›The Greek is καιρός, kairos, meaning due measure or when time inferred critical time, season, opportune time; thus contextually appropriate-time as a much future time is implied.

‹f›The Greek is βόσκω, boskō meaning feed, nourish; thus contextually only the pigs can feed but the context is the ones tending the pigs fled so the rendering tending-to-the-feeding.
