Matthew Chapter 2: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

1Moreover {upon} the Jesus, having been birthed within a Bethlehem of the Judea within days of a Herod, the king, lo, wise-men from east reached into a Jerusalem 2saying, “Where is the king, having been engendered, of the-ones Israelite for we observed the star of him within the east, and we came to have made-obeisance to him.”

3Moreover a Herod, the king, having heard, was disturbed and all a Jerusalem‹a› with him. 4And he, having gathered all the chief-priests and scribes of the people, was inquiring beside them where the-one anointed is birthed. 5Moreover the-ones said to him within a Bethlehem of the Judea for thus it has been written through the prophet, 6“And you a Bethlehem, land of a Judah, are in-no-wise least within the sovereigns of a Judah for out-of you he will come-forth, whosoever, leading-the-way, will tend the people of me, the Israel.”

7At-that-time a Herod, secretly having called the wise-men, made-exact beside them the time of the star appearing, 8and he, having sent them into a Bethlehem, said, “Having been proceeded scrutinize you precisely concerning the toddler, moreover when you might find {him}, report you to me to-the-end-that also-I, having come, might make-obeisance to him.”

9Moreover the-ones, having heard the king, proceeded, and lo the star, which they observed within the east, led-before them until it, having come, ╓stood╖ ┌was stood┐ on-top of who was the toddler. 10Moreover they, having observed the star, rejoiced an exceedingly great joy.

11And they, having come into the house, observed the toddler with a Mary, ╓a╖ ┌the┐ mother of him, and they, having fallen, made-obeisance to him, and they, opening the receptacles‹b› of them, brought-forward to him offerings: a gold and a frankincense and a myrrh. 12And they, having been taken-cognizance by‹c› a dream not to bend-back towards a Herod, retreated through an other way into the country of them.

13Moreover {upon} their having retreated, lo, a universal-messenger of a lord appears by‹c› a dream to the Joseph saying, “Having been awakened take-along you the toddler and the mother of him, and flee you into an Egypt, and be you there until I would say to you, for a Herod intends to seek the toddler of the-one to have him destroyed-utterly.

14Moreover the-one, having been awakened, took-along the toddler and the mother of him {during} a night, and he retreated into an Egypt; 15and he was there until the end-of-life of a Herod so-that it might be fulfilled the-one having been said from-under the lord through the prophet saying, “Out-of an Egypt I called the son of me.”

16At-that-time a Herod, having observed that he was mocked from-under the wise-men, was very-greatly provoked and having sent-authoritatively {soldiers} he slew all the boys, the-ones within a Bethlehem and within all the territory of her, from two-years-old and lower down the time which he made-exact beside the wise-men.

17At-that-time the-one was fulfilled, having been said from-under a Jeremiah, the prophet, saying, 18“A voice within a Rama ╓a dirge and╖ weeping and much lamentation was heard, Rachel weeping-aloud {for} the children of her, and she was not desiring to be comforted‹d› because they are not

19Moreover {upon} the Herod having ended-life, lo, a universal-messenger of the lord appears by‹b› a dream to the Joseph within an Egypt 20saying, “Having been awakened take-along you the toddler and his mother, and proceed you into a land, an Israel, for the-ones seeking the physical-life of the toddler have died.”

21Moreover the-one, having been awakened, took-along the toddler and the mother of him, and he came into a land, an Israel. 22Moreover he, having heard that an Archelaus became a king upon the Judea instead-of a Herod, the father of him, was terrified to have gone-forth there.

Moreover he, having been taken-cognizance by‹c› a dream, retreated into the districts of the Galilee; 23and he, having come, inhabited into a city being called‹e› a Nazareth; to-the-end-that the-one having been said fulfilled through the prophets that he, {the-one} Nazoraean, will be called.

‹a›The Greek is syntax of all is feminine nominative singular whereas Jerusalem εροσόλυμα, Hierosolyma generally follows 2nd declension neuter plurals and could so be construed in this case as nominative plural since it is the same as in verse 2:1 where the 2nd declension neuter accusative plural makes sense. In Greek the neuter nominative and accusative are identical and only the contextual usage determines the case.

‹b›The Greek is θησαυρός, thēsauros meaning treasure or the place where the treasure is stored, contextually the wisemen would have carried the item mentioned in receptacles, thus this usage.

‹c›The Greek is κατά, kata meaning motion downward, contextually the heavenly messenger comes down in the dream to a person which is more commonly spoken of by in English thus the use of by.

‹d›The Greek is παρακαλέω, parakaleō meaning call beside, entreat and in this context comfort.

‹e›The Greek is λέγω, legō, meaning to say but the context here is to name which is commonly stated to call.
