Chapter 8: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

 

        1Within those, the days, {upon} ╓a multitudinous╖ ┌again a large┐ crowd, being and having not which they might eat, ╓the Jesus╖ ┌he┐, having addressed the adherents of him, says to them, 2“I am compassionated onto the crowd because already ╔three days╗ ┬they┬ bide ┬three days┬ with me, and they have not which they might eat; 3and if I would release them a fasting into a home of them, they will be faint within the way ╓for╖ ┌and┐ some of them have arrived at a distance.”

      4And the adherents of him replied to him, “Upon a wilderness ╓whence╖ ┌that whence ┐ will anyone be able here to have satisfied these of loaves of bread?”

      5And he ╓was interrogating╖ ┌was asking┐ them, “How many loaves of bread do you have?”

      Moreover the ones said, “Seven!”

      6And he ╓directed╖ ┌directs┐ the crowd to have laid themselves back upon the land and he, having received the seven loaves of bread having given thanks, broke {them}, and he was freely giving {them} to the adherents of him so that they ╓might distribute‹a›╖ ┌may distribute‹a›┐, and they distributed‹a› {the bread} to the crowd.

      7And they were having a few small fish, and having praised {for} them he said, “╓To have distributed‹a› them╖ ┌To distribute‹a› these┐ also.”

      8╓Moreover╖ ┌And┐ they ate, and they were satisfied, and they lifted up an overflow, seven hand-baskets, of fragments. 9Moreover ╓the ones having eaten╖ ┌they┐ were about {the ones} four thousand, and he released them.

      10And he, ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ having embarked into the fishing boat with his adherents, went into the district, a Dalmanutha.

      11And the Pharisees came forth, and they, contesting him seeking beside him a sign from the heaven, began to have disputed with him.

      12And he, having moaned deeply {within} the spirit of him, says, “Why is this, the generation, ╓craving╖ ┌seeking┐ upon a sign? Truly I say to you if a sign will be freely given this, the generation.”

      13And he, having dismissed them again having embarked ╓into╖ ┬the┬ ╥a╥ ╓fishing boat╖, went forth into the one on the other side. 14Not only did they forget to have taken the loaves of bread, but also except ╓they forgot╖, they were having not one loaf of bread with themselves within the fishing-boat. 15And he was admonishing them saying, “Observe you! You are seeing from the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of a Herod!”

      16And they debated towards one another ╓saying╖, “Because ╓we have╖ ┌they have┐ not loaves of bread.”

      17And ╓the Jesus╖ ┌he┐, having known experientially, says to them, “Why are you debating because you do not have loaves of bread? You are not yet apprehending, not even are you comprehending thoroughly, ╓yet╖ you are having your heart, having had been hardened, 18having eyes you are seeing not, and having ears you are hearing not, and you are calling to mind not. 19When I broke the five loaves into the ones five thousand, how many satiated baskets of fragments did you lift up?”

      They say to him, “Twelve!”

      20╓Moreover╖ when {I broke} the ones seven into the ones four thousand, filling up of how many hand-baskets of fragments did you lift up?”

      ╓Moreover the ones said╖ ┌And they say to him┐, “Seven!”

      21And he was saying to them, “╓How not do╖ ┌Do┐ younot yet┐ comprehend thoroughly!”

      22And ╓he comes╖ ┌they come┐ into a Bethsaida, and they bring to him {the one} blind, and they entreat him so that he might contact him. 23And he, having attained the hand of the one blind, ╓led forth╖ ┌brought forth┐ him outside the village, and he, having spitted into the eyes‹b› of him having placed the hands upon him, he was interrogating him, “Is he seeing everything that?” 24and he, having gazed, was saying I see the humanity that I observe walking as trees. 25Accordingly he again placed the hands upon the eyes‹c› of him, and ╓did he make him to have gazed?╖ ┌did he see clearly?┐ And did he restore, and ╓he gazed╖ ┌he looked earnestly┐ {the ones} quite all distinctly. 26And he authoritatively sent him to ╓the╖ ┌a┐ home of him saying, “Not even might you enter into the village, ╓not even might you say anything within the village╖.”

      27And the Jesus went forth and the adherents of him into the villages of a Caesarea of a Philip, and within the way he was interrogating the adherents of him saying to them, “What are the humanity saying me to be?”

      28Moreover the ones ╓replied╖ ┌said to him saying that┐, “{Some are saying you are} a John, the purifier, and {the ones} others an Elijah, and moreover {the ones} others ┌that one of the prophets.”

      29And he ╓says╖ ┌was interrogating┐ them, “Moreover whom do you say me to be?”

      ╓Moreover╖ the Peter, having replied, says to him, “You are the one anointed.”

      30And he censured them, “So that they may say to no one concerning him.”

      31And he began to teach them that it is needful for the son of the humanity to have suffered much and to have been rejected as unworthy ╓from╖ ┌from under┐ the elders and ╔the╗ chief priests and ╔the╗ scribes and to have been killed and after three days to have stood up. 32And he was speaking the word plainly, and the Peter, having taken him aside, began to censure him.

      33Moreover the one, having been turned around‹d› and having observed the adherents of him, censured ╓the╖ ┌a┐ Peter ╓saying╖ ┌and he says┐, “Depart you back of me an adversary! Because you are minded not the ones of the god, but the ones of the humanity

      34And he, having addressed the crowd with the adherents of him, said to them, “╓Whosoever╖ ┌anyone who┐, desires to ┬have come┬ ╔follow╗ back of me, let he denied utterly himself, and let he lifted up the cross of him, and let he follow me. 35For who would desire to have rescued his soul, he will utterly destroy it; moreover who ╓would destroy utterly╖ ┌perchance will destroy utterly┐ the soul ╒of him╕ ╥of himself╥ on account of me and the good news, ╓this one╖ ┌he┐ will rescue it. 36For what will derive a person profit if ╓he would gain╖ ┌to have gained┐ the entire world-order, and ╓he might be caused loss of╖ ┌to have caused loss of┐ the soul of him, 37╓or╖ ┌for┐ what ╓an exchange of his soul will a person freely give╖ ┌might a person be given freely {onto} an exchange of his soul┐? 38For who would be ashamed of me and the words of me within this, the generation, the adulteress and {the one} bad character; also the son of the humanity will be ashamed of him, whenever he might come within the renown of the father of him with the universal messengers, the ones sacred.”

‹a›The Greek is παρατίθημι, paratithēmi meaning place beside or in this context distribute.

‹b›The Greek is ὄμμα omma, meaning the eye as the organ of bodily sight, primarily a poetic word, and is used one other time in Matt 20:34.

‹c›The Greek is ὀφθαλμος ophthalmos, meaning the eye as the organ of sense perception. This is the most used term for eye in the Gospels and is used to describe emotions derived from the sight such as envy.

‹d›The Greek is ἐπιστρέφω, epistrephō, meaning turn about or around, return, regard; the context is to turn around.
