The Gospel of Mark

Chapter 1:

 

      1A beginning of the good news of a Jesus, an anointed son‹a› of ╓the╖ ┌a┐ god, 2╓as╖ ┌according as┐ it has been written within ╓the prophets╖ ┌the Isaiah, the prophet┐, “Lo! ╓I╖ ┌I┐ am authoritatively sending the universal messenger of me before a face of you who will establish the way of you ╓in front of you╖. 3A voice exclaiming within the one uninhabited, prepare you the straightforward way of a lord, make you the worn tracks of him.”‹b›

        4A John, ┌the one┐ purifying and heralding a purification of a change of principle and practice into a dismissal of failures, became within the one uninhabited. 5And all the Judean country and the Jerusalemites was proceeding forth towards him; and {the ones} all confessing the failures of them were being purified within the Jordan River‹c› from under him.

      6╓Moreover╖ ┌And┐ ┬a┬╔the╗ John, having had been clothed {into} hairs of a camel, and a leathern belt around his waist‹d›, and eating grasshoppers and wild honey, was.

      7And he was heralding saying, “The one stronger than me comes back of me whom I, competent having stooped to have loosened the leathern strap of the footwear of him, am not.

        8I ╓indeed╖ purified you ╓within╖ a water; moreover he will purify you within a sacred spirit.

      9And it became within those, the days, a Jesus came from a Nazareth of the Galilee, and into the Jordan River he was purified from under a John. 10And ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ he, ascending ╓from╖ ┌out of┐ the water, observed the universes splitting and the spirit descending ╓like╖ ┌as┐ a common pigeon ╓onto╖ ┌ into┐ him. 11And a voice become out of the universes, “You are the son of me, the one affectionately beloved within ╓whom╖ ┌you┐ I am well pleased‹e›

      12And straightway the spirit casts him forth into the one uninhabited; 13and he was ╓there╖ within the one uninhabited being proved‹f› forty days from under the adversary, and he was with the wild animals, and the universal messengers were serving him.

      14Moreover after the John, the one to have been handed over, the Jesus, heralding the good news ╓of the dominion╖ of the god, came into the Galilee. 15Not only saying that the measure of time‹g› has been fulfilled, but also the dominion of the god has drawn near, “Change you your mind and heart, and have you complete confidence and be totally entrusting within the good news.

      16╓Moreover walking╖ ┌And traveling┐ beside the Sea of the Galilee he observed a Simon and a Andrew, ┬the brother of him┬ ┌the brother of a Simon┐ ╥brother of him, the Simon╥ ╓casting a casting-net╖ ┌casting around┐ within the sea, for they were fishers. 17And the Jesus said to them, “Come back of me! And I will make you to have become fishers of humanity18And ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ they, having dismissed the fishing nets ╓of them╖, followed him.

      19And ╓thence╖ he, having continued on a short distance, observed a James, the one of the Zebedee and a John, the brother of him, and them adjusting the fishing nets within the fishing boat. 20And ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ he called them, and they, having dismissed the father Zebedee of them with the wage earners within the fishing boat, went forth back of him.

      21And they proceed‹h into a Capernaum, and ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ he, having entered into the sacred assembly {within} the Sabbaths, taught; 22and they were being astounded upon the instruction of him, for he, teaching them, was as having authority and not as the scribes.

      23And ┌straightway┐ a person within an impure spirit was within the sacred assembly of them, and he cried out 24saying, “╓Ha! Oho!╖ Why to us! And to you, Jesus, Nazarene! You came to have utterly destroyed us! I know you! Who! You are the one sacred of the god!”

      25And the Jesus censured him saying, “Have you be silence! And come you forth out of him!” 26And the spirit, the one impure, having convulsed him, and he, ╓having screamed╖ ┌having sounded‹i›┐ in a great voice, came forth out of him.

      27And {the ones} ╓all╖ ┌quite all were astonished, therefore to dispute towards themselves saying, “What is this? ╓What the teaching! This the one new?╖ ┌A new teaching!┐ ╓That he╖ ┌He┐ charges according to an authority, also to the spirits, the ones impure, and they are harkening to him. 28╓Moreover╖ ┌And┐ straightway the hearsay of him went forth ┌everywhere┐ into ╓{the one}╖ ┌the one┐ whole countryside of the Galilee.

      29And ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ they, having come forth out of the sacred assembly, went into the house of a Simon and an Andrew with a James and a John. 30Moreover the mother-in-law of a Simon, being feverish, was being recumbent, and ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ they were saying to him concerning her. 31And he, having come forward, having seized ╓her╖ ┌a┐ hand awakened her, and ╓immediately╖ the fever dismissed her, and she was serving them.

      32Moreover {upon} evening having become when the sun sank, they brought towards him {the ones} all having illness, and the ones being maniacal. 33The whole city, having had been assembled, was towards the entry.

      34And he medically treated {the ones} many having illness with various insanities, not only did he cast forth many inferior divine beings but also he was not permitting‹j› the inferior divine beings to speak because they were knowing him.

      35And he, having stood up very greatly early at night, went forth, and he went forth into an uninhabited place, and there he was praying. 36A Simon ╓explored for‹k›╖ and the ones with him ┌explored for‹k›┐ him, 37and ╓they, having found╖ ┌they found┐ him, ┌and they┐ say to him, “That {the ones} all are seeking you

      38And he says to them, “May we lead ┌elsewhere┐ into the ones having village-towns so that also there I might herald for into this I ╓have come╖ ┌came┐ forth. 39And he, heralding and casting forth inferior divine beings, ╓was within╖ ┌came into┐ the sacred assemblies of them into the whole Galilee.

      40And {the one} leprous, entreating him and falling on knees ╓{into} him╖, came towards him saying to him, “That if you would desire, are you being able to have cleansed me?”

      41╓Moreover the Jesus╖ ┌And he┐, having been compassionated, having been stretched out the hand contacted him and says to him, “I desire. Be you cleansed! 42And ╓{upon} him having said╖, the serious skin disease went forth from him, and he was cleansed. 43And he, insisting sternly to him, ╓immediately╖ ┌straightway┐ cast him forth. 44And he says to him, “Observe you, you might say nothing to no one; but depart you, display you yourself to the priest and bring you forward concerning the cleansing of you, which a Moses prescribed into a testimony to them.”

      45Moreove the one, having gone forth, began to herald widely and to disseminate the word, therefore he, no longer to be able openly to have entered him into the city, was but outside ╓within╖ ┌upon┐ an uninhabited place, and they were coming towards him ╓from every side╖ ┌from all quarters┐.

‹a›This may also be translated: “{the one} anointed, a son of ╓the╖ ┌a┐ god,” or “anointed one, a son of ╓the╖ ┌a┐ god.”

‹b›Septuagint: Isaiah 40:3, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord God, make straight the paths of out God.” Mal 3:1a, “Behold, I send forth my messenger, and he shall survey the way before me.”

‹c›The Greek is Ἰορδάνῃ ποταμῷ, Iordanēi potamōi meaning the Jordan River; however usually only the declensions of Ἰορδάνης, Iordanēs without the word for river are used and these are translated Jordan River.

‹d›The Greek is ὀσφῦς, osphys which is usually translated loins which is the region of the body from the lower rib cage to the hips or what is more commonly known as the waist.

‹e›The Greek tense is aorist, a past tense viewing the action as a punctual occurrence; however this does not make sense here. Some scholars look at the aorist in this application as possibly a timeless aorist used as a present tense which makes sense contextually here.

‹f›The Hebrew writings often view God as calling for difficult actions or inflicting evils either directly or indirectly upon one to prove his character and steadfastness of faith, e.g. Abraham to slay his only son Isaac or the calamities that beset Job.

‹g›The Greek is καιρός, kairos, meaning due measure or when time inferred critical time, season, opportune time; thus contextually measure of time as now is the completion of what has been waiting in time.

‹h›The Greek is εἰσπορεύω, eisporeuō, meaning proceed into or insert. The prefix of this verb is redundant with the proposition following so only one form is used.

‹i›The Greek is φωνέω, phōneō, meaning produce a sound, summon. The context is to sound or make utterance of some type not necessarily any understandable words.

‹j›The Greek is ἀφίημι, aphiēmi, meaning properly to send from one’s self or dismiss, thus in this context dismissing the ones desiring to speak and with the negative not, thus the meaning is permit.

‹k›The TR-MT have plural 3rd person aorist, and the NA has singular 3rd person aorist.
