Chapter 18: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)
1╓The╖ ┌A┐ Jesus, having said these, went forth with the adherents of him across the one winter flowing of the Cedron {valley} where an orcharda was, into which he entered, and the adherents of him. 2Moreover also a Judas, the one handing him over, was knowing the place because ╥also╥ ╓the╖ ┌a┐ Jesus many times was gathered there with the adherents of him.
3Then the Judas, having taken the cohort and assistants out of the chief priests and ┌out of┐ the Pharisees, comes there with {the ones} brightb and lamps and weapons.
4Then a Jesus, having known all the ones coming onto him, went forth, and he ╓said╖ ┌says┐ to them, Whom do you seek?
5They replied to him, A Jesus, the Nazoraean!
╓The Jesus╖ ┌He┐ says to them, I am {he}!
Moreover also a Judas, the one handing him over, had stood with them. 6Then as he said to them, ╓That╖ I am {he}! They went forth into the ones back, and they fell on the ground.
7Then again he interrogated them, Whom do you seek?
Moreover the ones said, A Jesus, the Nazoraean!
8┬The┬ ╔A╗ Jesus replied, I said to you that I am {he}, if then you are seeking me, dismiss you these to depart 9so that the word might be fulfilled which said whom you have freely given to me, no one out of them did I not utterly destroy.
10Then Simon Peter, having a dagger, attracted it, and he struck the slave of the chief priest, and he chopped off the earc of him, the one on the right hand; moreover the name to the slave was Malchus.
11Then the Jesus said to the Peter, Cast you the dagger into the sheath; the potiond which the father has freely given to me by no means might I {not} drink it.
12Then the cohort and the commandant and the assistants of the Israelites arrested the Jesus, and they bound him. 13And they ╓led forth him╖ ┌led┐ first towards an Annas for he was a father-in-law of the Caiaphas who was a chief priest of that, the year.
14Moreover Caiaphas, having deliberated with the ones Israelites, was that it is expedient {for} one person ╓to have destroyed utterly╖ ┌to have deceased┐ on behalf of the people.
15Moreover Simon Peter followed the Jesus; and the other adherent, moreover that one, the adherent, well-known, was to the chief priest, and he entered with the Jesus into the courtyard of the chief priest. 16Moreover the Peter had stood outside towards the entry; then the adherent, the one other, ╓who was╖ ┌which┐ well-known ╓to╖ ┌of┐ the chief priest, came forth, and he said to the doorkeeper, and he led in the Peter. 17Then the young female slave, the doorkeeper, says to the Peter, Are you not also out of the adherents of this, the person?
That one says, I am not.
18Moreover the slaves and the assistants, having made a burning charcoal because it was cold, had stood, and they were warming; moreover, the Peter, having stood and warming was ┌also┐ with them.
19Then the chief priest asked the Jesus concerning the adherents of him and concerning the teachings of him.
20╓The╖ ┌A┐ Jesus replied to him, I ╓spoke╖ ┌have spoken┐ plainly to the world-order, I always taught within ┬the┬ ╔a╗ sacred assembly and within the temple where ╓always╖ ┌all┐ the ones Israelite meet, I spoke nothing secret. 21Why do you ╓interrogate╖ ┌question┐ me? ╓Interrogate you╖ ┌Question you┐ the ones having had heard what I spoke to them? Observe you! These know what I said!
22Moreover {upon} him having said these, one of the assistants, having had stood besidee, freely gave to Jesus a slap in the face, having said, Thus do you reply to the chief priest?
23╓The╖ ┌A┐ Jesus replied to him, If I spoke ill, bear you witness concerning the one pernicious; moreover, if rightly, why do you thrash me?
24Then Annas authoritatively sent him bound to Caiaphas, the chief priest.
25Moreover a Simon Peter, having been standing and warming himself, was. Then they said to him, Are you not also out of the adherents of him?
╒That one╕ ╥Then that one╥ denied, and he said, I am not!
26One out of the slaves of the chief priests, {the one} kindred, being of whom Peter chopped off the ear, says, Did I not observe you within the orcharda with him?
27Then again ╓the╖ ┌a┐ Peter denied, and immediately a rooster crowedf.
28Then they led the Jesus from the Caiaphas into the praetoriumg; moreover it was ┬early in the day┬ ╔at morn╗, and they did not come into praetoriumg so that they might not be defiled, but ╓so that╖ they might eat the Passover {meal}. 29Then the Pilate went forth towards them, and he ╓said╖ ┌asserts┐, What accusation do you bring against this, the person?
30They replied, and they said to him, If this one was not ╓doing ill╖ ┌doing {the one} pernicious┐, we would not hand him over to you?
31Then the Pilate said to them, Take you him, and judge you him in accordance with the law of you.
Then the ones Israelite said to him, It is not lawful to us to have killed no one. 32So that the word of the Jesus might be fulfilled which he said signifying of what kind of death he was intending to decease.
33Then again the Pilate entered into the praetoriumg, and he summoned the Jesus, and he said to him, Are you the king of the ones Israelite?
34╓The╖ ┌a┐ Jesus replied ╓to him╖, Do you say this from ╓himself╖ ┌yourself┐ or did {the ones} other say to you concerning me?
35The Pilate replied, Whether perchancei am I {the one} Israelite? The nation, the one possessed of you, and the chief priests handed you over to me, what did you do?
36┬The┬ ╔a╗ Jesus replied, The dominion, the one possessed by me, is not from this, the world-order. If the dominion, the one possessed by me, was from this, the world-order, the assistants, the ones possessed by me, would contend so that I might not be handed over to the ones Israelite; moreover now the dominion, the one possessed by me, is not hence.
37Then the Pilate said to him, Certainly not, a king! Are you??
The Jesus replied to him, Are you saying that I am a king? I have had been birthed into this, and I have come into the world-order so that I might bear witness to the truth; all the one, being out of the truth, hears the voice of me.
38Then the Pilate says to him, What is a truth? And he, having said this, again went forth towards the ones Israelite, and he says to them, I find not one motive within him.
39Moreover it is a custom to you so that I will release to you one within the Passover; then are you willing? Might I release to you the king of the ones Israelite.
40Then ╓{the ones} all╖ ┌they┐ again shouted saying, Not this one but the Barabbas; moreover the Barabbas was a plunderer.

aThe Greek is κῆπος, kēpos meaning garden, orchard, plantation. The usual translation is garden, unless one is thinking like a botanical garden with trees and other plantings where people could gather, then garden makes sense, but if garden brings to mind a plot of land with vegetable plants, then that is hardly a place for people to gather without trampling the plants and there is no shade or covering. Thus I have chosen orchard as a more probably setting for a gathering of people.
bThe Greek is φανός, phanos meaning light, bright; these are adjectives the main lexical entry, a second lexical noun entry not listed within the main entry meaning torch is also available. However a torch may be thought of as the one bright which is my usage.
cThe Greek is ὠτίον, ōtion, the diminutive of οὖς, ous meaning ear. The use of the diminutive suggests maybe only part of the ear is chopped off, or may be indicative of only the outer portion without the inner portion being affected.
dThe Greek is ποτηρίον, potērion meaning drinking cup however metaphorical potion as a Greek idiom for accepting what the gods have decreed one should under go or also called ones fate to endure whether joyously or adversely, thus the use of potion here.
eThe Greek is παρίστημι, paristēmi meaning stand beside, supply, compare, in this context stand beside.
fThe Greek is φωνέω, phōneō meaning generally to sound, voice, speak, cry aloud, summon thus the context is the rooster sounding or to crow.
gThe Greek is πραιτώριον, praetorium meaning the headquarters of the Roman commander-in-chief. For a territory as Israel the Romans took over palaces; thus there is an entry point. Also because of the great feast Passover, the Israelites are ceremonially defiled if they entered the Roman headquarters; thus the necessity for the leaders to stop at the entry point. Thus Pilate honors them and comes to them; normally one would be brought to where the commander was seated.
iThe Greek is μήτι, mēti a marker indicating that the answer to the question following is expected to be negative and is often untranslated, however I have chosen to translate as whether perchance for inclusiveness of all Greek words.
