Chapter 9: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

 

        1And he, traveling, observed a person, blind from the time of birth. 2And the adherents of him asked him saying, “Our honorable sir, who failed, this one or the parents of him so that {the one} blind was birthed?

      3┬The┬ ╔A╗ Jesus replied. “Neither this one failed nor the parents of him, but so that the works of the god might be manifested within him. 4It is needful for me to work the works of the one having sent me as long as a day is; a night is coming, when no one is being able to work. 5Whenever I may be within the world-order, I am a light of the world-order. 6He, saying these, spat on the ground, and he made a mud out of the saliva, and he plastered the mud onto the eyes ╓of the one blind╖ ┌of him┐; 7and he said to him, “Depart you, wash you in the pool of the Siloam which is being interpreted, having had been sent authoritatively‹a›; and then he went forth, and he washed, and he, seeing, came.

      8Then the neighbors and the ones ascertaining him, the one formerly that he was ╓{the one} blind╖ ┌a beggar┐,. were saying, “Is this one not the one being seated and asking for alms?”

      9{The ones} others were saying, “This one is he.”

      ╓Moreover {the╖ ┌{The┐ ones} others ╓“That╖ ┌were saying, “NOT, but┐ similar to him.”

      That one says, “I am {he}.”

      10Then they were saying to him, “How ┌then┐ were the eyes of you opened?”

      11That one replied, ╓and he said,╖ “╓A╖ ┌The┐ person, ┌the one┐ called‹b› Jesus, made mud, and he plastered the eyes of me, and he said to me, ‘╓Depart you into the pool of╖ ┌That depart you {into}┐ the Siloam, and wash you,’ and ╓moreover╖ ┌then┐ I, having gone forth and having washed, gazed.”  

      12Then they said to him, “Where is that one?”

      He says, “I do not know.”

      13They lead him, the one once blind, towards the Pharisees. 14Moreover it was a Sabbath, when ┌within the day┐ the Jesus made the mud, and he opened the eyes of him. 15Then again the Pharisees were also asking him, “How did he gaze?”

      Moreover he said to them, “He placed‹c› a mud onto the eyes of me, and I washed, and I am seeing.”

      16Then some out of the Pharisees were saying, “This one, the person, is not beside ╓the╖ ┌a┐ god because he does not heed the Sabbath.”

      ╓{The╖ ┌Moreover {the┐ ones} others were saying, “How is a person of bad character being able to do such signs as these?” And a cleft was within them.

      17Then they say again to the one blind, “What do you say concerning him because he opened the eyes of you

      Moreover the one said, “That he is a prophet.”

        18Then the ones Israelite had not having complete confidence and totally entrusting concerning him because he was blind, and he gazed until whichsoever they summoned the parents of him, the one having gazed. 19And they asked them saying, “Is this one the son of you whom you say that he, blind, was birthed?” How then just now does he see?”

      20┬The┬ ┌Then the┐ ╥Moreover the╥ parents of him replied, and they said ╓to them╖, “We know that this one is the son of us, and that he, blind, was birthed. 21Moreover how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened the eyes of him, we do not know; ╓he ┌he┐ has stature, ask you him; he will speak concerning ┬him┬ ╔himself╗.”

      22The parents of him said these because they were being terrified of the ones Israelite for the ones Israelite had already concluded so that if anyone would concede him, {the one} anointed; he, expelled from the sacred assembly, might become. 23For this reason the parents of him said, “That he has stature, ╓ask you╖ ┌interrogate you┐ him.”

      24Then from {the one} second they summoned the person who was blind, and they said to him, “Give you a renown to the god, we know that the person, this one [Jesus] is.”

      25Then that one [blind] replied, ╓and said,╖ “If {the one} of bad character is, I do not know, one I know that {the one} blind being just now, I am seeing.”

      26╓Moreover╖ ┌Then┐ they said to him ╓again╖, “What did he do to you? How did he open the eyes of you

      27He replied to them, “I said, to you already; and did you not hear? What not again do you desire to hear? And are you, adherents of him, desiring to have become?”

      28┬Then they ┬ ╔They╗ berated him, “You are an adherent of that one; moreover, we are disciples‹d› of Moses. 29We know that the god has spoken to a Moses; moreover we do not know this one, whence he is.”

      30The person replied, and he said to them, “For it is ╓{the one}╖ ┌the one┐ marvelous within this that you do not know whence he is, and he opened the eyes of me.”

      31{They said,} “╓Moreover we╖ ┌We┐ know that the god does not hear {the ones} of bad character; but if anyone would be religious, and he may do the desire of him, he hears this one.”

      32{He said,}, “It was not heard out of the eon that anyone opened eyes of {the one} blind, having had been birthed. 33If this one was not beside a god, he was not being able to do nothing.

      34They replied, and they said to him, “You, {the one} whole, were begotten within failures, and you are teaching us.” And they cast him forth outside.

      35╓The╖ ┌A┐ Jesus heard that they cast him forth outside, and he, having found him, said ╓to him╖, “Do you have complete confidence and be totally entrusting into the son of the ╓god╖ ┌humanity┐?”

      36That one replied, and he said, “Who is he, sir, so that I might have complete confidence and be totally entrusting into him?”

      37╓Moreover the╖ ┌The┐ Jesus said to him, “And you have observed him, and the one, speaking with you, that one is he.”

      38Moreover the one was asserting, “I am having complete confidence and totally entrusting, and he made obeisance to him.”

      39And the Jesus said, “Into judgment I came into this, the world-order, so that the ones, not seeing, may see, and the ones, seeing, {the ones} blind might become.”

        40And the ones with him being out of the Pharisees heard these, and they said to him, “Not also blind are we

      41The Jesus said to them, “If {the ones} blind you may be, you would not have a failure; moreover now you are saying, “We are seeing, ╓then╖ the failure of you is staying. ‹e›

‹a›Siloam is the transliteration of the Hebrew meaning to send messenger.

‹b›The Greek is λέγω, legō, meaning to say but the context here is to name which is commonly stated to call.

‹c›The Greek is ἐπιτίθημι, epitithēmi, meaning place upon. The prefix of this verb is redundant with the following preposition, thus possibly indicating an emphasis, however in English only the preposition is used.

‹d›The Greek is μαθητής, mathētēs, meaing learner, pupil which I have translated adherent, for one following an itinerant figure; however the context is much more contrasting implying learners or students practicing the Mosaic law, thus disciples.

‹e›Jesus earlier said humanity loved darkness more than the light. Here Jesus equates darkness with blindness and accepting or moving into the light as becoming able to see physically. Thus one having been born physically able to see may be blind and remains blind because of the love of darkness, i.e. continuing in one’s failures.
