Chapter 5: (Introduction to the Gospels, Coding Reference)

1After these, a feast of the ones Israelite was, and ╓the╖ ┌a┐ Jesus ascended into Jerusalem. 2Moreover within the {gates} of Jerusalem‹a› upon the one of sheep is a pool having five roofed colonnades, the one being called by name in Hebrew a ╓Bethesda╖ ┌Bethzatha┐. 3Within these, a ╓numerous╖ multitude of the ones ailing: blind, lame, {and} withered, ╓awaiting the motion of the water, ╖ were being recumbent. ╓4For a universal messenger was descending from time to time within the pool, and he was disturbing the water, then after the tumult of the water the one first, embarking, was becoming healthy {in respect of} which a grievous affliction he was being retained at the time.╖

5Moreover someone, a person, having within the feebleness ┌of him┐, was there ┬thirty-eight┬ ╔thirty and eight╗ years. 6The Jesus, observing this one, being recumbent, and having known experientially that he already has a long time, says to him, “Do you healthy desire to have become?”

7The one, ailing, replied to him, “Sir, whenever the water might be disturbed, I have not a person so that he might cast me into the pool; moreover {within} which I am coming, {the one} other is descending before me.

8The Jesus says to him, “╓To have arisen╖ ┌Arise you┐, lift you up the pallet of you, and walk you

9And immediately the person healthy becomes, and he lifted up the pallet of him; and he walks; ╒moreover it was a Sabbath within that, the day.╕ ╥10Moreover it was a Sabbath within that, the day; then the ones Israelite were saying to the one, having been medically treated, “It is a Sabbath; it is not lawful to you to have lifted up the bed.╥ ╒10Then the ones Israelite were saying to the one, having been medically treated, “It is a Sabbath; it is not lawful to you to have lifted up the bed ┌of you┐.╕

11╓He╖ ┌Moreover the one┐ replied to them, “The one, having made me healthy, that one said to me, ‘Lift you up the pallet of you, and walk you ”

12╓Then they╖ ┌They┐ asked him, “Who is the person who having said to you, ‘Lift you up ╓the pallet of you╖, and walk you.’?”

13Moreover the one, having been healed, was not knowing, who it is, for the Jesus turned aside {amongst} a crowd, being within the place. 14After these, the Jesus finds him within the temple, and he said to him, “Observe you! You, healthy, have become! Fail you no longer so that anything worse might not become to you

15The person went forth, and he proclaimed to the ones Israelite that a Jesus is the one, having made him healthy. 16And for this reason the ones Israelite were pursuing the Jesus ╓, and they were seeking to have killed him╖ because he was doing these within a Sabbath.

17Moreover the Jesus replied to them, “Until just now the father of me is working and I am working.”

18Then, for this reason the ones Israelite were seeking more exceedingly to kill him because not only was he annulling‹b› the Sabbath {Oral Laws}, but also he was saying one’s own father, the god, making himself equal to the god.

19Then the Jesus replied, and he said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you; the son is not being able to do nothing from himself, except he would see the father doing for which that one would do anything, this also the son is in like manner doing. 20For the father friendly loves the son, and he is displaying to him {the ones} all which he is doing, and he will display to him greater works than these so that you may marvel.

21For even as the father awakens the ones dead, and he reanimates; thus also whom the son desires, he reanimates.

22For not even the father is judging no one, but he has freely given all judgment to the son 23so that {the ones} all are honoring the son according as they honor the father. The one, not honoring the son, is not honoring the father, the one having sent him.

24Truly, truly I say to you, ‘That the one, hearing the word of me and having complete confidence and being totally entrusting in the one having sent me, has a real and genuine life lasting for an eon, and he comes not into judgment, but he has transitioned out of the death into the real and genuine life.’

25Truly, truly I say to you, ‘That the fitting time‹c› is coming, and now it is when the ones dead will hear the voice of the son of the god, and the ones having heard will live.’

26For even as the father has a real and genuine life within himself, and thus he freely gave the son to have a real and genuine life within himself; 27and he freely gave an authority to him to make a judgment because he is a son of a humanity. 28Marvel you not {towards} this because the fitting time‹c› is coming within which all the ones within the sepulchers will be hearing the voice of him. 29And the ones, having done the ones good, will proceed forth into a standing up of a real and genuine life; moreover the ones, having practiced the ones perfunctory, {will proceed forth} into a standing up of a judgment.

30I am not being able to do nothing from myself; according as I hear, I judge; and the judgment, the one possessed by me, is righteous because I do not seek the will, the one possessed by me, but the will of ╓a father,╖ the one having sent me.

31If I bear witness concerning myself, the testimony of me is not true; 32{the one} other is the one, bearing witness concerning me; and I know that the attestation, which he is bearing witness concerning me, is truthful. 33You have sent authoritatively towards a John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34Moreover I am not taking the attestation beside an humanity, but I say these so that you might be rescued.

35That one was the portable light, the one being kindled and shining‹d›, moreover, you desired to have been jubilated towards a fitting time‹c› within the light of him.

36Moreover, I have the attestation greater than the John; for the works, which the father freely gave me so that I might consummate them, they, the works, whichI╖ ┌I┐ am doing, is bearing witness concerning me that the father has authoritatively sent me. 37And the one having sent me, a father, ╓he╖ ┌that one┐ has borne witness concerning me; neither have you ever heard a voice of him nor have you observed an appearance of him. 38And you have not the word of him staying within you because whom this one authoritatively sent, you are not having complete confidence and being totally entrusting.

39You are searching the writings‹e› because you think within them to have a real and genuine life lasting for an eon, and these are the ones bearing witnesses concerning me. 40And you are not desiring to come to me so that you may have a real and genuine life.

41I am not receiving a renown beside a humanity. 42But, I have experientially known you that you are not having the affectionate love of the god within yourselves‹f›.

43I have come within the name of the father of me, and you receive me not; if {the one} other would come in the name, the one’s own, you will receive that one. 44How are you, receiving a renown beside ones another, being able to have had complete confidence and totally entrusting? You are not seeking the renown, the one beside the god alone.

45Think you not that I will accuse you to the father; the one, accusing you, is a Moses into whom you have hoped.

46For if you were having complete confidence and be totally entrusting a Moses, you would have complete confidence and be totally entrusting me; for that one wrote concerning me. 47Moreover, if you are not having complete confidence and being totally entrusting the writings of that one, how are you having complete confidence and being totally entrusting the messages possessed by me?

_____

‹a›The Greek for Jerusalem is plural which from the context has to refer to the entries into Jerusalem or better to state as the {gates} of Jerusalem.

‹b›The Greek is λύω, lyō meaning to loose, unbind, release from bonds, dissolve, do away, deprive of authority. Jesus from the synoptic gospels questioned the rulings of the authorities by re-explaining the observance of the Sabbath and the Mosaic Law, and as such he was subverting the Sabbath or annulling the Sabbath laws, as defined by the Oral Law, in the eyes of the authorities.

‹c›The Greek is ὥρα, hōra meaning any period of time, season, year, fitting time; thus contextually the fitting time, since a unknown time is indicated.

‹d›The Greek is the preposition φαίνω, phainō meaning bring to light, give light, shine, appear contextually shine whereas I normally use appear.

‹e›The Greek is γραφή, graphē means writings. I have chosen this word because scriptures is a Middle English term from the Latin scribere, to write and the canon of Hebrew Scriptures as I understand was not codified until during the 200’s CE. The Septuagint, a Hebrew to Greek translation of the Hebrew writings has a different order and has more books than what is currently accepted as the Hebrew Scriptures. Also the Septuagint is understood to be the writings that was common during the time of Christ as well as other possible Hebrew writings used at the temple and synagogues. Thus the more appropriate term is writings.

‹f›The Greek is reflexive 3rd person plural, however contextually it is 2nd person plural thus that translation.
